Gene Day
Howard Eugene Day (born in Kingston, Canada, August 13, 1951 – September 23, 1982) was a Canadian comics artist best known for his work on Marvel Comics' Star Wars and Shang Chi: Master of Kung-Fu. Although primarily known as an inker during his shortened life, he was a more than capable penciller, equally as good as some of the notable pencillers he inked. He was considered a mentor by independent comic writer/artist Dave Sim and posthumously inducted into the Joe Shuster Awards' Canadian Comic Book Creator Hall of Fame. Even more notably, Joe Shuster Awards founded the Gene Day Award for Canadian Self-Publishing and inn 2002, Sim and his Cerebus collaborator Gerhard created the Howard E. Day Prize, an annual award at the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo.
